Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens

This relatively unknown - and hidden - public space in the middle of suburbia is one of the Gold Coast's best spots for a picnic. The Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens sit in an inconspicious location along a major road, with their gated entrance easy to miss if not actively searching for it. The gardens are basic and not overly flashy like some of those in larger cities, however they offer plenty of greenery and room to throw down a picnic blanket and enjoy lunch alongside a calm and serene waterway. Plenty of bird life can be spotted here, including a number of water bird species, and there is a nice variety of plants and trees that provide a nice backdrop for relaxation.

The Gold Coast Botanic Gardens have walking paths that are wheelchair accessible and make for a leisurely stroll through areas that are often shaded, with some small waterfalls and other highlights to add to the scenery. Facilities such as barbecues, playground for the children, plenty of tables and seating are available, and there is also an on-site cafe and ice cream store staffed by very friendly people up a small road to the Visitor's Centre. Lawns are well-kept, and the atmosphere is peaceful despite its proximity to Surfers Paradise. It's not an overly spectacular or colourful botanic garden, but it is pleasant and enjoyable in its simplicity and within easy reach of most Gold Coast accommodation for visitors.
