If you follow the Rainbow Falls Walk for a short 10-minutes, you will stumble across the gorgeous, cascading Rainbow Falls – one of New Zealand’s must-see waterfalls. Close your eyes and listen to the waterfall from the 27-metre high edge while native birds chat away in the background. The fall is calming to look out and makes for a great photograph.
There are three different lookout points situated around the falls giving visitors different vantage points. There are two upper lookouts and one on the lower platform. Visitors are advised that if it is raining they should stick to the first upper lookout, as it is the closest to the carpark (about one minute from the carpark) and the safest in the wet weather.
If you only came to admire the falls then you can turn around and follow the short trail back to the lookout. However, if you’re after a scenic walk through the area you can continue along the Kerikeri River Track which will take you visit the historic Stone Store and Wharepoke Falls. The trip isn’t for the faint-hearted, taking around 3-hours to return.
