A highly personalised cultural experience, ‘Tiwi By Design’ is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the busy day of one of the oldest and most artistically diverse art centres in Australia.
After disembarking in the Aboriginal community of Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island, meet your Tiwi guide who will escort you to Tiwi Design Art Centre where local artists and dancers will perform a traditional Welcome to Country with a smoking ceremony and totem dances.
Enjoy a typical Tiwi morning tea of damper and a cuppa whilst getting to know some of the Tiwi Island community members. A walking tour with your guide will take in some of the local painted buildings and the historic mission precinct where you will see the beautiful wooden Catholic church that featured in the 'Top End Wedding' movie. Visit the Patakijiyali Museum with your guide to learn the history of the Mission days, the Tiwi Creation story, Tiwi involvement in WWII and most importantly, (to the Tiwi!), celebrated football players!
After a rest and lunch in the shade, you’ll get to participate in an exclusive ‘behind-the-scenes’ screen printing workshop. Choose from contemporary or traditional Tiwi design to print onto a takehome t-shirt, tea towel or fabric – a wonderful souvenir of your Tiwi visit. There's some free time to browse the carvings, paintings and fabric, your best opportunity to purchase authentic Tiwi pieces at Island prices.
This is a leisurely day of absorbing the workings of a busy Indigenous art centre – you may see art pieces destined for international exhibitions, talk to artists who are carving or painting, and sometimes the ladies will be there weaving and chatting. It is always loud and busy with Tiwi people coming and going, Ngarukuruwala music playing on repeat. Take the time to connect, share where you’re from and which footy team you support, ask about the stories you see on the paintings, or ask the artists there to show you their work.

No credit or refunds are available for unused services.

If a scheduled ferry service is cancelled by SeaLink Northern Territory due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, a transfer to another service or full refund will be offered. No refunds are given on unused ferry tickets or tour services.

No refunds will be made for services not availed once travel has commenced. All refund claims must be made in writing.
Ferry Ticket Policy:
- Tickets are non-transferrable and non-refundable. ID must be presented to SeaLink Northern Territory staff on check in. Lost tickets will not be reissued.
Child Policy:
- Child prices generally apply to children aged 5 to 14 years, inclusive. In some cases, this may vary – please enquire at the time of booking. Children under 5 years of age travel free of charge on SeaLink Northern Territory ferry services.
SeaLink Luggage Policy:
- Due to Workplace Health and Safety regulations, SeaLink crew cannot carry or assist with luggage that exceeds 20kg or one cubic metre in size
- Passengers are responsible for managing their own luggage within the terminal. Passengers requiring assistance with boarding and/or disembarking the ferry should seek assistance from a crew member when boarding commences
- Trolleys are not available for hire or loan
- All luggage is to be stowed in accordance with crew's directions and must not restrict access to safety equipment or block aisles or emergency exits
- SeaLink cannot store any luggage at any time at Cullen Bay Terminal.
- SeaLink takes no responsibility for any loss or damage to luggage in terminals or onboard the ferries
- SeaLink reserves the right to refuse to carry luggage that does not comply with our Luggage Policy or Dangerous Goods Code and the vessel's Master has the final decision
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations on SeaLink services will incur the following fees:
- More than 30 days before departure - nil fees
- Between 7 and 30 days before departure - 50% of total cost
- Less than 7 days before departure - 80% of total cost
- Within 24 hours of departure or 'No show' - 100% of total cost
Booking Information
- Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
- Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
- Vouchers can also be presented on your mobile device for this attraction
